Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is out this year and it appears that those looking to play it on PC will have several features exclusive to the platform compared to the PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One versions of the game. According to an interview with series producer Yoshinori Kitase, Final Fantasy VIII Remastered PC gets maxed out Guardian Forces (the game’s version of summons), magic, and Gil (in-game currency in the Final Fantasy series) in addition to players being able to easily access and acquire every ability, item, and Triple Triad card.
While past Final Fantasy re-releases have seen minor changes from one version to another due to their staggered release dates, such as Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII Remastered’s omission of specific features for console owners is perplexing when you consider that it’s slated to hit all platforms at the same time.
Final Fantasy VIII Remastered PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC features
- Triple speed
- Battle Enhancements (Max HP and ATB Gauge, Special Moves always available)
- No random encounters
Final Fantasy VIII Remastered PC exclusive features
- Acquire all Items, Abilities, Special Moves and Triple Triad cards
- Max GF level, Gil, and Magic
- Highly customisable system settings
Final Fantasy VIII Remastered was one of the surprise leaks and announcements of E3 2019. Slated for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, Final Fantasy VIII Remastered doesn’t have a concrete release date outside of a 2019 window. Fans wondered if the upcoming retelling of the adventures of Squall, Zell, Selphie, and friends would sport music from the Steam re-release. Reason being, it’s thought to be subpar versus the original PS1 release due to having different MIDI compositions in its soundtrack. Thankfully, developer Dotemu confirmed this won’t be the case. Final Fantasy VIII Remastered will use the music originally found on the PS1 version of the game.
The remaster includes improved visuals, updated character models, and more. It also looks like Square Enix is giving it a retail release. Read about that here.
Dotemu is handling the remaster with Square Enix. Dotemu has worked on some fantastic ports of old games and remasters to current systems over the last few years. Final Fantasy VIII Remastered arrives this year for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
